Nearly every cuisine in the world has some form of fried sweet cake or yeast bread. They go by a variety of names: yeast-donuts, binge, bomboloni, cake donuts, sfingi, crespelle, fastnacht, Churros, or Krapfen, all are fried and sweet. Our menu includes many varieties, but we only offer two for shipping to your door:
Here in Western New York, which is rich in food traditions, there is a regional specialty: Peanut Stick Donuts. These cake-based donuts (made without yeast) are hand-formed in stick shape, then honey-glazed, and while the glaze is still wet, hand-rolled in peanut meal. The other donut we offer nationally is an Italian donut, Bomboloni. These rich, yeast-raised donuts are first proofed, then fried. When they have cooled, our Bomboloni are filled with a tart, seeded raspberry jam and covered in powdered sugar.
